MORRIS WETLAND MANAGEMENT DISTRICT OFFICE AND AUTO TOUR Stevens County.
Habitat:
some woods, rolling grasslands, and wetlands.
Amenities: T, R (when office is open).
Notes:
The auto tour is open from sunrise to sunset from about May 1 to October 15. A hiking trail that is open all year is accessible from the district office parking area. Both the auto tour and the hiking trail pass through Edwards and Fehr Waterfowl Production Areas.

From the intersection of US 59 (as it heads north) and Hwy 9 southeast of Morris, travel north on US 59 a short distance to Co. Rd. 10. Turn right on Co. Rd. 10 and travel east 2.6 miles to the Auto Tour Route at the Morris Wetland Management District site. This site also cotains the Edwards and Fehr WPAs. Continue east on Co. Rd. 10 for 1.4 miles to the district office. Continue another short distance on Co. Rd. 10 to a parking area for Long Lake Waterfowl Production Area on your left.

FROLAND WATERFOWL PRODUCTION AREA Pope County (52 acres).

Continue east on Co. Rd. 10, which becomes Co. Rd. 18 in Pope Co., for about 14.0 miles to Hwy. 29. Turn right on Hwy. 29 and travel south 0.2 miles to a parking area for Froland Waterfowl Production Area on your right. This site has a nature trail.

GLACIAL LAKES STATE PARK in Pope County (1,880 acres).
Habitat:
wooded hollows, steep grass-covered hills, marshes, kettle-hole lakes and kames (cone-shaped hills formed by glacial debris).

Notes:
Campground is closed from Labor Day to Memorial Day, but the park is open year round during the day.

Continue south on Hwy. 29 for almost 1.0 mile to where Co. Rd. 41 continues due south and Hwy. 29 bears to the right, veering southwest. Continue south on Co. Rd. 41 about 2.0 miles to Glacial Lakes State Park.

LAKE MINNEWASKA Pope County.

Notes: There are parks at both ends of the lake and viewpoints at various locations around it. This is a large lake, so a scope is very helpful.

Retrace your steps to the intersection of Hwy 29 and Co. Rd. 18. Continue north 2.0 miles on Hwy. 29 to Hwy. 28 in the center of Starbuck. Just before you reach this intersection, there is a park at the west end of Lake Minnewaska that offers views of the lake. Turn right on Hwy. 28/29 and travel 9.4 miles east, following the lake shore, to Hwy. 104 in the center of Glenwood. Turn right on Hwy. 104 and travel south 0.9 miles to another park on your right, this time at the east end of Lake Minnewaska.

BARSNESS PARK Pope County (150 acres).
Habitat: woods and thickets.
Amenities: T, R, C, P.
Notes:
In the winter, this park has a small downhill ski area.

Barsness Park lies across Hwy. 104 from the park at the east end of Lake Minnewaska. Trails at the east end of the park take you through wooded areas.

RUNESTONE COUNTY PARK Douglas County (193 acres).

Notes: This park is the site of the Kensington Rune stone discovered In 1898.

Return to the intersection of Hwy 104 and Hwy 28/29 in Glenwood. Continue north on Hwy. 104 for 1.7 miles to Hwy 55. Turn left on Hwy. 55 and travel northwest 17.8 miles to Co. Rd. 1 in Kensington. Turn right on Co. Rd. 1 and travel north 1.6 miles to Co. Rd. 103. Turn right on Co. Rd. 103 and travel 1.5 miles east and north to the entrance to Runestone County Park. Return to Co. Rd. 1 and Hwy. 55 in Kensington. Continue south 0.5 miles on Co. Rd. 1 to Kensington Waterfowl Production Area on your right.

POMME DE TERRE RIVER WATERFOWL PRODUCTION AREA Stevens County (382 acres).

Continue south for 5.5 miles on Co. Rd. 1, which becomes Co. Rd. 3 in Pope County, to Co. Rd. 32 (Co. Rd. 32 continues west when Co. Rd. 3 turns south). Continue west on Co. Rd. 32, which becomes Co. Rd. 20 in Stevens County, for 2.0 miles to Co. Rd. 1. Continue west on what now becomes a gravel road (130th Street) for 3.0 miles, continuing through one intersection to a second one and the beginning of Pomme de Terre River Waterfowl Production Area on your left. After another 0.4 miles, there will be a parking area on your left and then another on your right after another 0.3 miles.

WENTE WATERFOWL PRODUCTION AREA
Stevens County (234 acres).

Continue west on 130th Street for another 1.4 miles to US 59. Wente Waterfowl Production Area is on your left on the west side of US 59. There is a parking area on your left 0.5 miles west of US 59. To explore the north loop of the Pomme de Terre Region, return to US 59 and turn left. Travel north on US 59 for about 35 miles to Co. Rd. 82 just before you reach I-94. Turn right on Co. Rd. 82 to reach the first site on this loop. To return to Morris, the starting point of this loop, go back to US 59 and turn right. Travel south on US 59 about 10.0 miles to Hwy 9.
